Hedgecutter

Well-tended hedges without backache

Many people enjoy looking after their garden as a welcome change from working in the office every day. Digging in the earth, creating flower beds or mowing the lawn clears the head, has a relaxing effect and improves the general mood. Particularly after the dreary winter months, gardening enthusiasts just love the spring. The gardening season begins as soon as the last snow has disappeared - but often has unpleasant consequences for the back. After all, unergonomic gardening tools can cause tension in the neck, muscle problems and backache.

Regular hedge trimming with unsuitable tools can also be torture for the back. Heavy hedge trimmers that are difficult to operate and don't lie well in the hand place a great strain on the back and joints, which can easily cause serious complaints.

Easy to handle, lightweight

Handles are particularly important in back-friendly tools. They should be made of non-slip materials with an ergonomic shape. They should be positioned to allow the user natural handling with the possibility of using changing hand positions.

It is very important for the hedgecutter to be horizontally balanced when held at the front handle. The switches of the hedgecutter must be easy to reach in every position, particularly when working in an upright position and above head height. A transparent handguard is also necessary to warrant an optimum field of vision.

And last but not least, the motor should be powerful but without compromising in terms of weight. The electric garden tool should not weigh more than four kilograms.

Checklist

  • To relieve the muscles, it must be possible to hold the hedgecutters in different holding positions. The switches must be easy to operate in every position.
  • The spacing between the handles must facilitate natural handling. The handles should also be ergonomically shaped and made of non-slip materials, such as SoftGrip.
  • The centre of gravity of the hedgecutters must ensure that they are horizontally balanced when held at the front handle.
  • A transparent handguard offers an optimum field of vision while holding the body and head upright.
  • Lightweight hedgecutters (max. 4 kg for a cutting thickness of more than 30 mm) with a high weight-to-power ratio (more than 180 watt/kg) make the tool easy to use.

Minimum requirements

  • Possibility of different holding positions, switches in easy reach in every position
  • Physiological handling
  • Optimum centre of gravity for horizontal balance
  • Transparent handguard
  • Low weight

Also appropriate

  • It is advisable for the power cable outlet to be located at the rear position of the handle so that the cable does not interfere when working.
